"In brightest day, in blackest night,

No evil shall escape my sight

Let those who worship evil's might,

Beware my power... Green Lantern's light! "

--Green lantern Oath

Green Lantern- --1st appearance: Showcase # 22 (October, 1959)

There are actually many Green Lanterns in the universe, with most of them belonging to the Green Lantern Corps, an intergalactic police force created by the blue-skinned Guardians of Oa. Several humans from Earth have served as a Green Lantern. The first of these human Lanterns was Hal Jordan (pictured below).

Hal Jordan is Green Lantern

In June of 2012, DC Comics published a comic book as part of their controversial new line of "New 52" stories that changed the history and biography of the original Green Lantern, Alan Scott, and retconned him into an openly gay man. In all previous incarnations of his character, the Alan Scott Green Lantern was not gay, but did have a gay son. Much of the public mistakenly believed this newly gay Lantern was the Hal Jordan version which became well-known as a result of the 2011 Green Lantern movie starring Ryan Reynolds. The Green Lantern depicted on this page is not the Alan Scott (Gay) Green Lantern.

The new Green Lantern movie, was released on June 17, 2011. Below is the official trailer for the Green Lantern Movie:
